Level 3: Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Course

Provides learners with the theory needed and practical experience required to carry out formal inspection and testing of electrical equipment (portable appliances).
Learners will gain an understanding of the theory and practice involved in the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, commonly referred to as PAT (Portable Appliance Testing). During the course practical exercises are undertaken using a range of test equipment.
- Hazards of electricity and appliances
- Statutory and non-statutory requirements
- Equipment construction
- Classification of appliances
- Inspection and testing theory and practical
- Completion of documentation
Specially written course providing theoretical and hands on practical experience of portable appliance inspection and testing.
This course takes place over two days.
The centre training times are Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. With breaks for coffee and lunch (Note: lunch is not provided).
Weekend and evening training is available on request (subject to availability).

An online open book (IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing for Electrical Equipment) multiple choice exam.
A practical assessment where you will undertake the in-service inspection and testing of portable equipment
Please remember to bring photographic ID such as a passport or driving license with you in order to sit any exam or assessment.
Learners must be over 18 years old.
